The Plasterwork
The Plasterwork . . . which dates from the early to mid-eighteenth century is all hand carved and not moulded which would have been more usual.
It is one of the most impressive large-scale displays of decorative plasterwork anywhere in Devon. |
Coats of Arms . . . On the side walls are impressive Coats of Arms of four Benefactors with a focal point formed by the Town Crest on the east wall.

Historical Graffiti . . . The benches along the side walls are probably contemporary with the plasterwork. Former pupils of the school have carved their names and initials on this and in other places.
On the first bench on the right as you enter will be found William John Wills' name. He, together with his companion Robert O'Hara Burke, became the first to cross the continent of Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria. He died on 28th June 1861 during his journey home. |
